Photojournalism - Visual Reportage

     This class is designed with using a camera to communicate in a different way than any other course here at Fresno City College. Every time you take a picture you communicate. You tell your viewer something about yourself in each ‘expression’ of a picture you choose to display or publish.
     In this course you will discover the art of pushing those communicative talents to the limit. To not only put something of yourself in each picture, but convey something of the subject to the reader forming a distinctive point of view or subjective statement. The goal is to give the picture life beyond the immediate time and place.
       To do this we’ll employ many different techniques. From using extreme methods for obtaining a image in low light to handling the various types of portraiture lighting on location using only what is in your camera bag. You will learn how to work a subject, situation, maneuver into position and deal with adverse subjects to your advantage.

Current Assignment & Information

     Some of you had a nasty surprise last week when you came in and talked to me about your long term project.  You had nothing to show and frankly that hurt you!  Many of you promised me you would send me some stuff via email this week.  SEE THAT YOU DO IT!!!!
   We are in the 7th week which means you have 10 weeks to get this done, considering production time. Many of you are cutting your own throats here. Some of you did not even bother to talk to me. You know who you are and you need to see me.
     This week we’ll critique your work on Project 2 and I’ll show a couple of video in class from last year.  Give you an idea of what others have done.  Get busy on the long term stuff and make sure you are thinking and getting ready for the video project.
