Parable: A short simple story with a moral. - Whimsy: Fanciful humor

One of the quirks of being a photographer, and a photojournalist in particular, is that you tend to spend a lot of time watching things; Candidates, sports, retirement parties, crime scenes, etc.   You get to see how people react in times of tragedy and celebration. While I no longer do that for a living I am still a trained observer.

This summer I spent a whimsical month looking at the relationships between natural and manufactured objects.  The more I studied them the funnier I found some of these comparisons.   I was struck by the stark contrast of texture and form of both subjects and surprised by the apparent uniformity found in both.

I call these “parables” because I believe there is a moral in our relationship to the world that God created and the ‘things’ we manufacture to make life easier.  Often this manufactured world only results in a technological churn where today’s invention is tomorrow’s junk. In the natural world, there is no obsolescence…only the passing of a season.

Everything presented here is a common item. All botanicals are from my garden, flaws and all; The mechanicals are from my garage or kitchen, many heavily used and abused. The pairings are particularly random. I simply experimented until I found a combination that I thought had a ‘beauty and the beast’ quality.

I hope you find the whimsy in all of this.
