Kings River Project

[Galleries] [Details] [Artist statement] [Current shows] [Corporate] [Classes]

The Kings River in Central California is unique in several ways. It is only one of two rivers in the world that do not flow to an ocean or sea. The other being the Jordan River in the Middle East. It is also a river of thirds. The highest elevation supply the water shed for the cities and farmland of the Great Central Valley of California. The middle third is a recreational paradise. The last third is totally agricultural and at this point the river transforms from a scenic oasis to working component of an agricultural machine.
The river is forced into pinstocks, redirected into canals and used bring water to land that normally would be only desert. The distribution of the Kings is a modern water miracle, but not without it’s price.
This on going project hopes to photographically portray the Kings’ three separate personalities and functions providing a document of it’s beauty, its fragile nature, the benefits and problems of its taming.
